§ 01 Executive summary

The subject aircraft is a 1974 Cessna 172M with 3,108.4 hours total time and 684.0 hours since major overhaul on the engine and propeller. The aircraft is presented as airworthy and currently in annual (last signed 2025-04-29). Airworthiness directive compliance is current with two recurring inspection items due in the next 100 flight hours. Logbook continuity is essentially complete — one gap of approximately four months in 1991 was identified in the airframe log but is adequately explained by the surrounding entries. Two items require buyer attention prior to purchase: an improperly documented magneto replacement, and a cosmetic corrosion finding on the lower cowling attach ring that warrants removal-and-inspection on the next annual.

§ 02 Discrepancies

01
MINOR

Magneto replacement not properly documented

Right magneto shows S/N 88412 in the engine logbook entry of 2022-07-11, but the same serial number appears on the 2019-03-02 entry as the magneto that was removed. Either the 2022 entry contains a typographical error or the magneto history is incomplete. An 8130-3 tag on the currently installed magneto would resolve — recommend requesting from seller before closing.

Surface corrosion — lower cowling attach ring

Visual inspection of the lower cowling attach ring shows light surface corrosion with no visible pitting. Not currently airworthy-limiting. Recommend removal, cleaning, alodine, and reinstall at next annual. Estimated cost: 3–5 shop hours plus materials.
